It’s 15 years since Concorde stopped flying, but for a time in 1979-1980, you could fly Concorde domestically within the U.S. Braniff International operated BA and AF Concordes, re-registered in the US, complete with N-number stickers, and flown by Braniff crews.

“Procession of the Nobles” by Rimsky-Korsakov from Mlada . The FAA is working to bring supersonic travel back to the US, based on work done by NASA and DARPA in the Shaped Sonic Boom program . It makes for a crazy-looking aircraft.

Ooh that’s unfortunate.  Pelican or Platypus doesn’t have the same ring as Concorde.

I’ll take the sonic booms, thanks.   Saves on eye bleach.

When I was a kid at my grandparents place, you could hear the the sonic boom of the C oncorde as they left IAD. It was pretty cool, actually.

Yeah, Braniff leased a total of 11 Concordes. I t was supposed to be for evaluation and crew training in preparation for buying some of their own outright, but they lost a bunch of money on the service and were really hurting from the effects of deregulation anyway, so it didn't go anywhere.

Yeah Braniff didn’t really make a great transition to the world of deregulation. Harding Lawrence was a visionary in many ways and a kook in others - stunts like the Concorde flights probably hastened Braniff’s demise considerably.
